Weather and seasons
Your child makes sun, rain, snow and storms at a weather station with Nimbo the little cloud, dresses for the weather, fills a cloud until it rains and sorts pictures into the four seasons. Every word is read aloud, so no reading is needed.

Inside the game
Weather station
Tap one of eight kinds of weather and watch it happen outside, from sunshine to a thunderstorm.
Get dressed
Drag three things to wear on a sunny, rainy or snowy day. The wrong ones fly back.
Make it rain
Drag little wisps of water up into the cloud until it is full, then tap it to water the garden.
Seasons
Drag pictures like a tulip, a pumpkin or a sled to the season they belong to.
Fun facts
Short facts about clouds, rain, snow, wind, thunder and the seasons, read aloud.
Memory
Find the pairs: sun, cloud, snowflake, rainbow and more. 4, 6 or 8 pairs.
Quiz
Ten questions. Every right answer rains a drop on the garden.
Facts for kids
Word for word as the game reads them aloud.
What is weather?
The weather is what the sky is doing today: sunny, cloudy, rainy or snowy. It can change many times in one day!
The sun
The sun warms the ground, the water and the air. Without the sun, there would be no weather at all.
Clouds
A cloud is made of millions of tiny water drops. They are so light that they float in the air.
Rain
When the tiny drops in a cloud bump into each other, they grow bigger and heavier, until they fall down as rain.
Snow
Snow is frozen water. High up in a cold cloud, the drops freeze into snowflakes. Every snowflake has six arms.
Wind
Wind is moving air. You cannot see it, but you can feel it, and you can see what it moves: leaves, kites and your hair!
Fog
Fog is a cloud that lies on the ground. When you walk through fog, you are walking through a cloud!
Thunder
Lightning is a giant spark high in the sky, and thunder is the sound it makes. We stay inside and count: the more seconds, the farther away it is.
Rainbow
A rainbow has seven colors: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet. Red is always on the outside. You see one with the sun behind you and rain in front of you.
Round and round
Rain flows into rivers, lakes and the sea. The sun warms the water, it rises up, becomes a cloud, and rains down again. That is the water cycle.
Four seasons
Spring, summer, fall and winter. In spring, flowers bloom. In summer, it is warm. In fall, the leaves turn orange and fall. In winter, it can snow.
Upside-down seasons
The seasons depend on where you live. When it is summer in Europe and America, it is winter in Australia! And near the equator, it is warm all year round.
The weather forecast
Weather scientists look at the clouds, the wind and the temperature to tell what the weather will do tomorrow. That is the weather forecast.
Questions kids ask
Why does it rain?
A cloud is made of tiny water drops. When they bump together they grow bigger and heavier, and when they are too heavy to float, they fall as rain.
What is a cloud made of?
Millions of tiny water drops, or tiny bits of ice where it is very cold. They are so small and light that they float in the air.
Where does the water in a cloud come from?
From lakes, seas, rivers and puddles. The sun warms the water, it rises into the air as invisible vapor, cools high up and forms clouds, then falls again as rain or snow. This is the water cycle.
Why does it snow?
When a cloud is below freezing, its water freezes into tiny ice crystals that grow into snowflakes. If the air near the ground is cold too, they land as snow instead of melting into rain.
Why do snowflakes have six arms?
Water freezes into ice crystals with six sides, so a snowflake grows six arms. Each one grows its own way on the way down, which is why they look so different.
What is wind?
Wind is moving air. The sun warms some places more than others, and air flows from one place to another. You cannot see it, but you can see the leaves and kites it pushes.
What is fog?
Fog is a cloud that touches the ground. It forms when the air near the ground cools down and its water vapor turns into tiny drops.
What are thunder and lightning?
Lightning is a giant electric spark in a storm cloud, and thunder is the sound it makes. You see the flash before you hear the rumble because light travels much faster than sound.
Is it safe to play outside in a thunderstorm?
No. When you hear thunder, go inside a building and stay there until the storm has passed. No place outside is safe in a thunderstorm.
How does a rainbow happen?
Sunlight shines into raindrops, bends and splits into its colors. You see one when the sun is behind you and rain is in front of you, with red always on the outside.
Why are there seasons?
The Earth is tilted as it travels around the sun once a year. When your half leans toward the sun, the days are long and warm: summer. When it leans away, it is winter.
Is it summer everywhere at the same time?
No. When it is summer in North America and Europe, it is winter in Australia and South America. Near the equator it is warm all year round.
Talk about it
- What is the weather like today? What should we wear for it?
- Which season do you like best, and why?
- Where do you think a puddle goes when the sun comes out?
A weather diary
Look out the window together every morning for a week and draw the weather on a sheet of paper: a sun, a cloud, rain, wind or snow. At the end of the week, count which weather came most often.
