Letter and reading games

Before children read, they learn to recognize letters and hear their sounds. These games start with the capital letters: big, clear shapes that young children spot easily, especially the letters of their own name.

Letter sounds

  • Linking 16 letters, from B to W, to the sound they make at the start of a word
  • Hearing the first sound of a word, like the mmm in moon
  • Telling whether two words start with the same sound or not
